Data Science for All Meetup x Memorial Sloan Kettering | C1 Insights

Written by Shane Wilson | October 8, 2019

Let's talk about how Memorial Sloan Kettering is using data science to conquer cancer.

This blog post was prepared by Memorial Sloan Kettering's talent team in anticipation of their October 10th Data Science for All NYC meetup

Memorial Sloan Kettering is the world's oldest and largest private cancer center — having devoted more than 130 years to exceptional patient care, innovative research, and outstanding educational programs. Close collaboration between our physicians and scientists is one of our key strengths, and enables us to provide patients with the best care available as we work to discover new strategies to prevent, control, and ultimately cure cancer in the future.

At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), we're not only changing the way we treat cancer, but also the way the world thinks about it. By working together and pushing innovation and discovery forward, we're driving excellence and improving outcomes. We are committed to improving access for patients, enhancing care models, helping our leaders and medical teams make faster and better decisions, and so much more.

Data Science at MSK

Today, data touches nearly every aspect of our organization. MSK's data leaders help clinicians, patients, and caregivers pinpoint areas where we can improve services and work together to create solutions that enhance and transform the care we provide. With that said, we know there's still so much more work to be done when it comes to aiming the latest data science techniques at some of our toughest organizational challenges.

Our data and engineering teams keep an eye on the future. In recent years, we've both monitored and been inspired by the work done in other industries leveraging data science, machine learning, and AI. As a mission-driven organization, we've always been able to attract great talent, but strategizing on how best to roll data science into our current workflows, as well as thinking about how to attract the field's best talent — has introduced a new and interesting set of challenges.

We are partnering with Correlation One and the broader Data Science for All community to pull the curtain back on what makes Memorial Sloan Kettering one of NYC's truly elite organizations. At our October 10th Data Science for All NYC meetup, you'll have the opportunity to meet members across our Strategy and Analytics teams including:

Debyani Chakravarty, Lead Scientist, Kravis Center for Molecular Oncology

Ed Reznik — Assistant Attending Computational Oncology

Isaac Wagner, Senior Director Analytics — Senior Director Analytics

Ivana Krizanic, Director, Development Decision Science

Wazim Narain, Senior Manager Clinical Systems — Reporting & Analytics

At the meetup, you'll learn more about our mission, our processes, and our people. We'll also be taking plenty of audience questions and taking this opportunity to start conversations with some of NYC's best and brightest. We hope you'll walk away from the event knowing what makes Memorial Sloan Kettering such a great place to work.
