How career discovery competitions strengthen U.S. Army employer brand and talent outcomes

The first and second U.S. Army Career Invitationals have been effective recruitment tactics because of their use of career discovery competitions. For context, a career discovery competition is a role-based assessment that evaluates an individual’s skills and fit for careers within an organization.

In the case of the U.S. Army Career Invitational, career discovery competitions were branded as “missions” by Correlation One to increase real-world likeness and participant excitement.

By making missions the focal point of the invitational events, the U.S. Army can now:

  • Assess individual skills and weaknesses in real-time
  • Align participant strengths to the needs of internal job openings
  • Perform rapid recruitment at scale

It can also establish a strong, long-lasting employer brand by:

  • Highlighting its organizational commitment to innovation and creativity
  • Fostering a fun, engaging, and noteworthy candidate experience
  • Creating buzz about career paths in the U.S. Army
